The meeting hosted by Maha Metro Nagpur was attended by officials of government agencies including Public Works Department (PWD), Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and representatives of Smart City project. Maha Metro officials and representatives of World Resources Institute (WRI) also attended the meet.

Representatives of WRI made a presentation about the need to promote use of cycle in the city. Various models which are being implemented in cities across the country were discussed in the meet. The ways to implement the project and the involvement of various stake holders in it was also discussed. Maha Metro, PWD and NMC officials also put forward their views in the meeting.

It may be noted that, Maha Metro Nagpur has been advocating use of bicycles in an effort to decongest city roads. In fact, Maha Metro also plans to launch dockless cycle project in the city. Under the project, prospective cycle users have to download an app and use the cycle to reach their destination.

As part of its project to promote use of cycle in the city, Maha Metro Nagpur also proposes to lay cycling tracks on two most important stretches of the city – from Rahate Colony to Airport and from Rani Zanshi Square to Ambazari. Construction of dedicated tracks on these two busy roads, would definitely promote cycle use.

The meeting was attended by Mahesh Kumar, Director (projects) and S Sivamathan, Director (finance) – both Maha Metro Nagpur officials and others officers from the various concerned departments.
