The clock tower at Ajni square has once again stopped functioning. The clock is not working from the past one week and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is still in deep slumber. It’s been almost 7 days that the clock is showing the same time that is 5 ‘O’clock.
It is imperative to mention that the Clock Tower of Ajni square was the dream project of then NMC commissioner Manu Kumar Shrivastav. As per the plan, it took around Rs 50 lakhs for the clock tower and now it looks like NMC is not even bothered about the timely maintenance of the clock.
The Clock Tower was to be set up in 2003 to mark the Tercentenary of the city but unfortunately, the project was delayed for eight long years for varied reasons and finally it was installed on May, 2, 2011. However every now and then, the clock stops functioning, pointing to the lethargic attitude of NMC.
“I don’t have any idea” says NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane
When Nagpur Today talked to NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane he has no idea about the matter and he is totally unaware that the clock has stopped working. When asked about the reason Wardhane said that “I don’t have any information regarding this and I will definitely look into the matter. Wardhane told Nagpur Today that the clock will be repaired tomorrow itself on the first priority”.
