Nagpur: Amid protests from the villagers over releasing the man eating tigress in Bor Tiger Reserve, the big cat was reportedly on the prowl for prey and reportedly killed two goats in Gaurwada village. The tigress was released in Bor from Bramhapuri. It had been released in erstwhile village of Navargaon which is now relocated.

According to sources, the monitoring teams are making all-out efforts to push the tigress to the core area. Apart from Gaurwada, she moved through Karai, Garamsur, Sukli and Gothangaon villages too.
“The tigress has travelled at least 20-21 km during the last 11 days and she must have stepped out in bid to explore the area. It is a good sign,” said officials.

On Tuesday, the tigress was being monitored by foresters riding an elephant and also vehicles. But she is apparently swift. The tigress is 5km away from Adegaon village and is close to human habitations.

“In case she goes close to human settlements, we are equipped to capture her,” said officials.

Experts fear that the tigress preying on goats was not a good sign. “When Bor has a huge prey base, why is the tigress hunting goats,” they asked.

Pench field director Rishikesh Ranjan was not available for comments.
