Nagpur: A tiger was found dead in a farm well in Narkhed forest range near Nagpur, stated forest officials on Sunday. The carcass of the tiger was first noticed by farmer Pradeep Farkade in the farm well located in Mouza Pipla Khurd area.
Senior forest officers including, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Dr Bharti Singh Handa, R M Ghadge, RFO D N Balki visited the site and inspected the spot. Spot panchnama was prepared under the supervision of Udamsingh Yadav, Honorary Wildlife Warden, and Dr Mayur Kate. An offence under Forest Conservation Act 1972 has been registered by the officials and further investigations are on, informed Bharat Singh Handa, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Nagpur Forest Department.
In a separate incident, a tiger cub was found dead in Madnapur forest circle in Chandrapur District. The forest officials were informed about the finding of cub near Madnapur (Tukum) Lake in Palasgaon in Pipardi Forest Range. A B Gedam, Area Assistant, Madnapur along with NS Bankar, Forest Guard and other forest personnel surveyed the spot. Later Yogita Atram, Forest Range Officer, Palasgaon, went to the spot and inspected it and it was found that the cub had died in a fight between two tigers. The viscera was collected and sent for medical examination.
On inspection of the incident site, it was estimated that the dead tiger cub was about 16 to 18months old. Forest officials have speculated that the tiger that killed the tiger cub was ‘Jhaylo’ who was roaming in the area and from its carcass it is inferred that the dead tiger cub was killed five days ago. And the tiger had eaten 80% of the dead tiger’s body. Therefore only the head and stomach part were left.
