Nagpur: The weather scenario in the month of May has baffled Nagpurians as thunderous rains lashed the city on Thursday flooding the streets and low-lying areas triggering chaos.

Several roads and residential areas have been inundated, said reports. The local administration moved people from many flooded areas to safer places in the city.

The torrential rain, which started around 10 am, continued till afternoon disrupting normal life. Water entered many houses, especially those situated in low-lying areas. Rainwater gushed into the basement of several commercial and residential buildings across the city causing damage to property.

As the rain continued till afternoon, streets turned into streams, and residential areas into lakes as heavy downpour caused mayhem. Motorists experienced traumatic hours caught in traffic gridlocks everywhere, more so on Wardha Road, Ambazari Road, Kamptee Road, and Narendra Nagar Ring Road, where heavy water logging closed the RUB for vehicles.

The fluctuating weather has caught Nagpurians off guard. This surprising turn of events brought relief from the scorching summer heat but also left behind a trail of havoc and disruption on Tuesday evening too.

The day began with black clouds hovering over the city. However, around 10 am, the atmosphere underwent a rapid transformation as thunderstorms rolled in accompanied by gusty winds. These initially mild winds escalated into heavy rainfall across the city. Furthermore, some areas were also pelted with hail, adding to the intensity and unpredictability of the weather event.

The sudden onslaught of inclement weather conditions took many by surprise, resulting in disruption to daily activities and posing challenges to infrastructure and transportation networks.

In the month of April too, rains with thunderstorms dominated the scorching summer heat. As per the weather department, April 2024 is the coolest April month after 1969, as it is witnessing back-to-back spells of thunderstorm and hailstorm.
