Three dead, 11 injured in a house collapse in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area

Three persons died when a house collapsed in Mankhurd that lies in the eastern suburb of the city on Thursday morning.

As per officials, a ground plus one structure collapsed at the Mankhurd Maharashtra Nagar. The area is called Sai Baba Rahivashi Sangh.

According to disaster management officials at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident occurred at 7.08 am.

The injured were rushed to the civic-run Shatabdi hospital, seven of the injured have also been transferred to the civic-run Sion hospital. Officials said the rescue operations are still on at the site.

Three families — Pawar, Gadwe and Wankhede — were affected due to the collapse. The ground plus one structure collapsed on two other houses at around 5.45am which resulted in three deaths and nine injuries including five children.

The names of the deceased are Rekha Wankhede,30, Shankar Wankhede,38, and Kasturba Wankhede,60.

Locals with the help of fire brigade rescued those trapped and they were rushed to nearby hospitals while efforts are on to clear the debris.
