Third VNIT student commit suicide in last three months

Nagpur News : Since March this year, third VNIT student committed suicide by hanging himself on Sunday morning. 19-year-old Tanmay Tembhekar was a second year student of Metallurgical engineering branch.

Tanmay, described as a brilliant and shy student by his friends, didn’t left any suicide note leaving his elderly parents clueless about his problem that drag him to end his life.

Including Tanmay, in past three months, three VNIT students have committed suicide. On March 21, second year engineering student K Y V Sai Tej had hanged himself in his hostel room of VNIT while on April 20, Hrishikesh Sarwate, third year student of Mechanical stream was found hanged to the ceiling fan of his hostel room.

Tej, took the extreme step for scoring less in his second session and over alleged harassment by professors while Sarwate, in his suicide note mentioned academic stress responsible for his suicide.

Tanmay belongs to a well to do family having a retired bank employee father and a homemaker mother with two highly qualified and employed elder sisters. Being youngest in family, he was lovable for all.

His father Deorao told police that on Saturday evening, he had gone to bed on his regular timing in his room on the first floor of their MIG colony residence near Bhim Square in Jaripatka.

Around 6 am, his mother found him hanged to the ceiling fan when she had gone to call him. Parents brought him down and rushed to nearby private hospital before informing police. The doctors referred him to Mayo hospital where he was declared brought dead.

On informed by Mayo police booth, Jaripatka police registered a case of an accidental death and shifted the body for post mortem at Mayo mortuary.

Police said that they have checked Tanmay’s room but didn’t found any note. His cell phone has been seized but cops claimed that they are yet to check his call detail records.

His friends told Nagpur Today  that he was an intelligent student and had never failed in any paper. Cops suspects either some personal problem or harassment that forced him to end his life.
