Maharashtrian food, at last is in favour in Nagpur – the second capital of the state of Maharashtra! People are becoming aware of its variety, its flavours and most of all the fact that it is probably the healthiest and well balanced complete meal of India.
A ‘Marathi’ jewanachi thali will compulsorily have the following: a pinch of salt which essentially divides the thali for other ingredients. On the left of the salt are pickles, chutneys, koshimbir ( salads) and a slice of lemon. On the right are vegetables, dry sauted ones, curried veggies in a katori and also katoris of dal, kadhi and buttermilk. In the remaining space is the neatly folded or triangularly cut roti/ bhakri and rice. Rice, always served with hot ghee to go with ‘varan’ (dal).
This is the classic, traditional food you will still get at a Maharashtrian’s home. What are the options when you come to dining out? Among the Marathi dishes that have become most popular are Jhunka, Masala Baingan and Bharta. Apart from these are ‘snack’ items like sabudana wada, sabudana khichdi and kakdiche thalipeeth. VARHADI THAT
A one stop place for everything mentioned above. They have already made their name as Caterers for weddings and other dos, and their management of the MLA guest house canteed. From past 12 yrs they are serving Maharashtrian cuisine at restaurant called Varhadi that at Dhantoli.They serve Jhunka, Bharta, Vadi rassa, thalipeeth, thecha, chatni, gola bhat, masala bhat and variety of salads. They are well known for their khawa roti, puran poli and kothimbir wadi. (Seasonal).

VARHADI VYANJAN
They serve anthentic (varhadi) Maharashtrian dishes such as gola bhat, masala bhat, zunka, baigan bharta, vange masala, patodi rassa etc along with bhakri, chapati and parathas. They specialize in khawa and puran roties. This was begun just two years ago in 2014 but is already very popular.

SHRUTI Veg Fast Food And Pizza Corner
Parag Pande, an entrepreneur began his journey selling this Rs. 15/ a piece Amul cheese pizzas – remember that scheme? It took off on a high note but somehow could not sustain. But Parag had taken a liking for the food business and decided to venture out on his own. He began with South Indian and then decided to serve ‘home cuisine’ Marathi food since it was not readily available.
Shruti has a choice of thali ( in the afternoons) as well as a la carte. Though the predominant taste is Marathi, taking into account Nagpurians’ cosmopolitan nature they also serve Punjabi and North Indian dishes like chole, dam aloo etc. Their khawa roti and puran poli are also very popular. VARHADI VILLAGE
Varhadi village is a theme based restaurant, where one can have a Thali which includes starters to main course. The entire choice of cuisine is available, Puran poli, being the only one they serve unlimited in a particular thali. Situated in a prime location at traffic park, Shreeji thali attracts more young crowd as they offer meals in pocket friendly rates. The food is most like home food since they encourage students to use it as a ‘mess facility’ for the whole month. Three vegetables, dal, kadhi, rice and roti is served at Rs. 150/ a thali or Rs. 3000/ for the month. The vegetables, kadhi etc. have a Marathi – Gujarathi flavour.
