The 8th Rashtriya Poshan Pakhwada is being observed across the country from 9th to 23rd April 2026 under the leadership of the Ministry of Women & Child Development (MWCD), in collaboration with key ministries including the Ministry of AYUSH.

This year’s Pakhwada focuses on the theme “Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life.” Scientific evidence indicates that more than 85% of brain development occurs by the age of six years, with the most rapid growth taking place during the first 1000 days. This period is crucial for ensuring optimal brain development, physical growth, and holistic well-being of children. The initiative aims to shift the narrative from “nutrition for health” to “nutrition and early childhood stimulation for optimal brain development,” emphasizing the importance of integrated care, nutrition, and responsive parenting in the early years of life.
