Thakre corners mayor against disrupted water supply, Comm. begs 3 days for solution

Nagpur News: The water supply situation in Nagpur has gone from bad to worse thanks to the allegations game being played between NMC and the private entity Orange City Waters. This strategy has led to interrupted water supply in the areas of ward no 71 under Takli Sim. The corporators are being kept shuffling between NMC’s water supply department and OCW. Irked over the current state of affairs, the leader of opposition in NMC Vikas Thakre on Thursday led the sufferers at NMC head office and cornered the mayor Anil Sole for the apathy. The angry mob also shouted slogans against the NMC administration and broken large number of clay potteries there.

Sensing the urgency of the situation, Mayor immediately called upon the NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane and instructed him to resolve the issue at the earliest. On his part, Wardhane assured to get the technical glitch sorted out within three days with the help of its experienced employees.

Earlier, Thakre had informed the mayor that the water supply has been badly affected in his ward for the last 15 days and the people are helplessly running from pillar to post to fetch potable water. The matter has been brought before both NMC and OCW but nobody took any initiative to solve the problem. While the OCW officials clarified that the prevailing situation is the result of non-cooperation from the NMC’s project department and water supply department.

While on the other, the water supply department is pulling up OCW for the hurdle as an employee on condition of anonymity informed that lack of experienced workers and officials with OCW is causing all the problems.

Thakre has also demanded stern legal action against the officials and employees responsible for adding to the water woes of citizens. The agitating women demanded to cancel the contract allotted to OCW.
