Terrorists Attack Police Party in Anantnag, 1 Policeman Critically Injured

Srinagar: One policeman was critically injured after terrorists attacked a police party near a bus stand in Anantnag on Monday. While earlier reports said that the policeman was martyred, the police later issued a clarification saying that the policeman who was shot at by terrorists was alive and was admitted to hospital in critical condition. The attack came even as an encounter was on in Pulwama between terrorists and security forces. The security forces gunned down two terrorists in Bamnoo while one terrorist was holed up on Monday. One of the slain terrorists has been identified as Kifayat.

Earlier on Sunday night, the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF had begun cordon and search operations in Pulwama’s Malangpora after terrorists were suspected to be have been hiding in the area. However, reports say that the locals clashed with security forces and pelted stones, following which the terrorists reportedly managed to escape. Two of the terrorists have been reportedly identified as Hizbul Mujahideen top commander Reyaz Naikoo and his aide Saifulla Mir.

Earlier this month, a civilian was killed and 12 others were reportedly injured as clashes broke out between the security forces and the locals in the Pulwama district of south Kashmir a few hours after three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in an encounter. Following the encounter, Colonel Ajit Kumar, 50 RR, said that the Army was not affected by the stone pelting during the operation and that the encounter was handled very well by the Pulwama Police. “The army was not affected by the stone pelting during the operation as it was handled very well by Pulwama police. Two of the 3 terrorist killed yesterday were from my area (Battalion), there was presence of 12 active terrorist, now two down and 10 more to go,” he added.
