Nagpur: In bizarre turns and twists, and a ‘grave mistaken identity’ as well, a ‘murdered’ man has emerged alive. The curious case pertains to a murdered man whose partially burned body was found in Kalamna area on Tuesday morning. Initially, police had, based on a woman’s version, identified the body as that of Lakhan Mate. However, investigations at a later stage revealed that Lakhan Mate is alive, bringing relief and smiles to his family. But the terrible faux pas has now posed a sort of challenge before the cops. Who is the real victim then? The foxed police are now toiling hard to establish the identity of the murdered man, this time without any folly.

It may be recalled that a man was found murdered with his throat slit and body partially burned. Finding of the gruesome body in Kapsi area of Kalamna had led to tension and panic among residents. The body bore deep wound on throat apparently done by a sharp-edged weapon. The killer(s) also tried to burn the body with the intention of destroying evidence. Some persons claiming to be relatives had identified the body as that of Lakhan Mate. However, Godavari Mate, mother of Lakhan, when she went to Mayo Hospital mortuary, informed police that Lakhan never wore baniyan and the murdered man was wearing a baniyan.

Moreover, Godavari said the shirt also is not of Lakhan. Baffled by the revelation, the cops later denied the identity of the murdered man as Lakhan Mate and also stopped telecast of the news aired by TV channels.

On Tuesday morning, the Kalamna Police Inspector Sunil Bonde had informed media that the body found in Nageshwar Nagar ground was that of Lakhan Mate. The women residents of the area and relatives too had claimed the body as that of Lakhan. However, when Godavari told police that Lakhan never wore baniyan and the shirt was also not of his, the cops were left baffled, said the PI Bonde. Now, the question is: Who is the murdered man? The identity was not established on second day (Wednesday) too putting the cops on their toes.
