Tension rises as JNU PhD scholar commits suicide in South Delhi

JNUNew Delhi/Nagpur: A PhD scholar of the Jawaharlal Nehru University committed suicide in south Delhi’s Ber Sarai area today. Police recovered Dushyant’s body from his rented flat in Ber Sarai today morning. The 25-year-old student was from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.

The suicide news has come even as tension at the JNU campus is running high since the arrest of students union president Kanhaiya Kumar and two other students for organising and participating in an event in support of Parliament attack convict Azfal Guru. All the three have been charged with sedition.

While Kanhaiya, who was arrested on February 12, was granted a six-month interim bail by the Delhi High Court earlier this month. The two other students, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, who were arrested on similar charges, are still in jail.
