Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar joined a host of former stars in congratulating the Indian cricket team for a historic victory as the Virat Kohli-led side clinched the three-match series 2-1 against Sri Lanka to win a Test rubber in the island nation after 22 long years.

It was also Kohli’s first series win as captain after he took the reins of the team from Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The last time an Indian team won a series in Sri Lanka was way back in 1993 under Mohammed Azharuddin’s leadership when they sealed the series with 1-0 scoreline.

It a come-from-behind win for the young side after losing the first Test at Galle and Tendulkar was all praise for Kohli’s boys.

Tendulkar wrote on his twitter handle, marking Kohli in the tweet too.

Former Test skipper Anil Kumble also congratulated the team on a well-deserved win.

Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman was also impressed with the team’s turnaround in the series. Laxman wrote on twitter.

Former captain Bishen Singh Bedi also tweeted his pleasure at India breaking the Lanka jinx. “Gud job Ind-SLankan jinx is buried at long last! But how did Ind lose 1st Test in 1st place?!Let yur hair down fellas but don’t 4get lacunas!,”(sic) said the legendary spinner. Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was part of the winning squad, also tweeted his sense of victory soon after the 117-run win at SSC today. Harbhajan wrote on twitter.

Proud of the team’s accomplishments, the BCCI also congratulated Kohli’s side for the series victory.

“Congratulations, Team India. Congratulations, Virat on your first series win as India’s Test captain. #SLvsIND,”(sic) wrote BCCI on it’s official twitter page.
