Tehsil cops nab auto driver who had decamped with woman’s purse containing booty worth Rs 1.35 lakh

Nagpur: In a swift action, Tehsil police succeeded in nabbing the auto driver who had on March 27 decamped with a woman’s purse containing Rs 1 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 34,500.

It may be recalled, the complainant Nanda Rangari, resident of Khankhoje Nagar, Manewada, had on March 27 along with family had gone to Mominpura-based Shahid Hotel for dinner in an auto. After reaching the hotel, Nanda paid fare to the auto driver but forgot her purse in auto itself. She came to know about her folly when the family entered the hotel. Soon she came out and called the auto driver. But the auto driver pretended of not hearing her call and sped away knowing that Nanda had forgotten her purse in his vehicle. The purse contained Rs 1 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 34,500.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Nanda, Tehsil police had booked the auto driver and launched a search to nab him.

During the investigation, Tehsil cops scanned footages of CCTVs installed nearby the spot. The footages led the cops to identify the auto driver as Ramesh Rajaram Ghatole (45), resident of Vakilpeth, Hanuman Nagar. Armed with this vital information, cops mounted a hunt of the accused auto driver and ultimately apprehended him. Cops recovered Rs 18,000 out of Rs 1 lakh, five small gold rings weighing 5 grams worth Rs 15,000, 4-gram gold locket worth Rs 12,000, a 2-gram gold coin valued at Rs 6,000, and other booty worth Rs 1500.

The action was carried out by PI Khandekar, constables Ravindra Panbude, Vithal nasre, Sunil Thakur, Tappulal Chute, Hemant Parate, Nitesh Dabharde, under the guidance of DCP Sambhaji Kadam and ACP Jagtap.
