Tawde Committee to visit RTMNU on Sunday over proposed Universities Act draft

Nagpur: A high-level Committee, set up under the presidentship of Maharashtra Minister for Education Vinod Tawde, is undertaking a tour of Nagpur, Amravati and Nanded Universities on Sunday (November 1). The Committee will hold discussions with experts in education field and other sections and seek their opinions on various issues. The Tawde Committee was set up to review many a provision of Maharashtra Universities Act 1994 that have got outdated and to incorporate certain relevant provisions as well as upgrade present ones.

The Tawde Committee will visit Rashtrasant Tukdoj Maharaj Nagpur University at 9 am on Sunday and convene a meeting of experts and other sections of people.

The opinions and suggestions forwarded in the meeting are likely to be incorporated in the Maharashtra Universities Act to be amended in the coming days. Similarly, the Committee will visit Sant Gadgebaba University, Amravati at 12.30 pm and Swami Ramanand Tirtha Marathwada University, Nanded at 4.30 pm.

The draft of Maharashtra Public Universities Legislation will be tabled during Winter Session of Maharashtra Legislature in December.

In this respect, the Tawde Committee is undertaking visits to every university in the State. After meeting select experts and other sections of people such as teachers, teachers’ unions, principals’ union, directors of educational institutions etc the final draft of the Universities Act will be prepared based on the opinions and suggestions.
