Nagpur: In a bizarre incident, swift action by police, who were at Ambazari Lake to fish out a body, saved the life of a youth who jumped into the lake to end his life on Sunday.
The youth, identified as Harsh Mendhe (20), resident of Milind Nagar, was depressed since his mother died in a freak mishap on November 4, Laxmi Pujan day, in Karanja Lad.
According to police, a team of Ambazari Police Station was busy in performing panchanama at the Ambazari Lake on Sunday morning as a dead body was found floating in the water. Suddenly, the youth, who was sitting at the lake shores, jumped into the lake and started drowning. Taken aback by the development, cops immediately jumped into the water and pulled the youth to safety.
According to reports, on the basis of information given by Harsh Mendhe, the police alerted his father who immediately rushed to the spot. After interacting with the boy and his father, the police learnt that the mother of the youth died in a freak mishap on the day of Diwali. Since then, he has been depressed. He had, in the past, attempted to commit suicide thrice. His father, who works as a driver, told the police that his son has been in a state of shock since the death of his mother. Later, police consoled the youth and handed him over to his father.
