Swachh Futala: Mission Accomplished

Headquarters Maintenance Command, Indian Air Force, Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur launched “Swachh Abhiyan” clieanliness drive campaign at the Futala Lake, a prominent land mark of the city, on 02 Oct 2015. The event was organised in consonance with the mandate of the Government of India on “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” and social responsibility towards citizens of Nagpur.

Air Marshal Jagjeet Singh VSM ADC, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command, Nagpur spearheaded the campaign which saw participation from almost 3000 personnel. Participants included Air Warriors of HQ MC, Vayusena Nagar, Air Force Station Sonegaon, NCC Group HQ, 22 P&S Unit and Public Relations Unit (MoD). Families of air warriors too joined the noble cause. Air Vice Marshal Praveen Bhatt VSM SAASO, MC, IAF, Air Commodore CS Thakur Dy PMO, MC, IAF guided event.

The highlight of the event was voluntary participation by children of a number of schools and colleges of Nagpur, social workers, citizens, NGOs apart from support by Civic authorizes. Pravin Datke Mayor, Shri Shyam Wardhane, Municipal Commissioner and Sunil Gujjelwar from NIT and number of civil dignitaries also joined hands to make the event a grand success. Children from following schools participated enthusiastically. Bhagwandas Bhavan’s School, IRA International School, KV Vayusena Nagar, Jain Heritage, Center Point School, Raisoni School, Jain International School, BKVV, St Pauls, Modern, Jagat Public School, NCC Air Wing Cadets from various Schools and Colleges and many more.

Junior Warrant Officer Gopal Singh Hada, SWO, Air Force Stn, Sonegaon contribution was outstanding as he swam into Futala Lake recovering the remains of Idols and Visarjan for close to these hours inspite of visible snack.

Defence PRO Wg Cdr Samir S Gangakhedkar intimated that this was an unprecedented effort wherein the cleaning of Futala Lake was carried out with a missionary zeal and military approach by all present.

Air Marshal Jagjeet Singh while thanking Children, families, NGOs, Civic authorities and air warriors expressed satisfaction at the effort. “In just four hours the scene at Futala Lake was transformed unbelievably. This is a humble tribute by Nagpurians to our Father of the Nation” he said.
