City based orthopaedics Dr Vishal Sahni has secured nomination in NRI of the Year Award – UK in its professional category. Sahni has received the nomination for performing the world’s first ever robot assisted key hole surgery of shoulder joint. The surgery was performed with perfection and yielded excellent results.

Keyhole surgery is performed by passing a very thin long telescope like device called arthroscope in the joint which is connected to a large TV monitor through high quality optics. The surgery is performed by tiny incisions called portals often just 2-3 mm.

Keyhole surgery requires minimal invasion which means tiny cuts which result into almost invisible scars, minimal blood loss. There is no need to cut muscles so minimum pain, very little bleeding so no need to transfuse blood, quick recovery from surgery and patient goes home the same day. The advantage of robot assisted surgery is better precision, more accuracy, no issue of human fatigue etc. Dr Sahni combined both to come out with an innovative procedure.

Alumni of Bishop Cotton School and Hislop College here, Sahni had pursued his higher education at GMC and IGMC. He has appealed the people to cast online vote so as to enable him to win the coveted award.
