Nagpur: A woman trickster duped a “superstitious” man to the tune of Rs 75,000 by scaring him that his son would die if a religious ceremony is not performed. The incident took place in Koradi area on Tuesday.

A resident of Ward No. 4, near Shitala Mata Mandir, Mahadula, Rajesh Moreshwar Komalliwar (29), told police that an unidentified woman came to his house around 11.30 am on Tuesday. The woman told Rajesh that his son is undergoing phase of sade-sati (Sade-Sati is the 7 1⁄2 years long period of Saturn — Shani. This astrological phase is much feared by Indians who give credence to astrology) and he (son) could be facing life threat.

To avoid this ominous event, Rajesh will have to perform ‘Shanti,’ a religious ceremony. With these scary words, the woman trickster asked Rajesh to take out his gold ornaments for ‘puja.’ Later the woman diverted Rajesh’s attention and fled with the booty worth Rs 75,000.

Koradi ASI P V Wakde has registered an offence against the accused woman under Section 420 of the IPC and searching for her.
