“The Rehabilitation Minister Patangrao Kadam had announced a relief package of Rs 2350 crore in the Vidhan Parishad during the Winter Session of State Legislature. The minister had also assured distribution of relief money within 15 days. However, not a single penny has been given to the rain-ravaged farmers,” the Opposition Leader in Legislative Council Vinod Tawde lamented.

The Opposition Leader in Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad) Vinod Tawde, tearing apart the Maharashtra Government’s assurance on a relief package to rain-hit farmers of Vidarbha, charged the minister with making a mockery of distressed farmers and fooling them.

“The Rehabilitation Minister Patangrao Kadam had announced a relief package of Rs 2350 crore in the Vidhan Parishad during the Winter Session of State Legislature. The minister had also assured distribution of relief money within 15 days. However, not a single penny has been given to the rain-ravaged farmers. The minister has been resorting to criminal mockery of the aggrieved farmers and fooling them with hollow assurances that too after the announcement in the House,” Tawde lamented.

The BJP leader Tawde had demanded relief package of Rs 6500 crore for Vidarbha and Konkan farmers who were victims of excessive rains during the months of June and July in 2013. The State Government had announced package of Rs 3,000 crore out of which Rs 750 crore were of last year. It clearly showed the Government was indulging in insulting and cheating the helpless farmers. Moreover, Tawde had demanded lump sum Rs 25,000 relief per hectare but Government announced Rs 5,000 help per hectare. But even that amount has not been paid yet, Tawde said.

The farmers have been facing nightmarish situation following the rain fury and are expecting whatever relief from the Government. Tawde has warned of an intense agitation unless Government pays the relief money within seven days.
