Nagpur: In a major move, the Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday decided to implement “Abhay Yojana 2015” (Amnesty Scheme) to recover pending dues of Local Body Tax (LBT). In this scheme, those traders paying the original pending tax amount will be given relief in fines and interest.

Since the enforcement of LBT in the State from April 1, 2013, several traders have not paid the tax. As a result, the LBT has been pending in large proportions and put municipal bodies in crisis situations. For recovery of this pending tax amount, the “Abhay Yojana” scheme will be implanted.

The amnesty scheme will be implemented 25 municipal corporations including Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The period of this amnesty scheme will be from June 1 to July 31, 2015. Those traders paying their pending LBT amounts during this period will be extended the benefits of the amnesty scheme. The scheme covers all the traders. Those traders who have not registered with LBT regime, will have to do so during the amnesty scheme period. However, the traders paying their pending LBT dues after July 31, 2015 will not be entitled to the benefits of this “Abhay Yojana.”
