Nagpur News: Former Member of All India Handloom Board Haider Ali Dosani has demanded the Central Government to grant Rs 5,000 crore for restoration and repairs of roads in Vidarbha that have been destroyed by the recent rain-fury. Dosani met the Minister for Road Transportation and National Highways Oscar Fernandes at his office Transport Bhavan in Delhi.

However, the Minister for Road Transportation and National Highways Oscar Fernandes explained Dosani that the Special Package could only be granted when the State Government sends a proposal with estimates to the Central Government.

Now, Dosani has decided to meet the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan immediately and appeal him to send a proposal to the Central Government in this connection so that the work of restoration and repair of roads and Highways could be started on an emergency basis.

Dosani, while submitting a memorandum to Oscar Fernandes, informed him of the destruction of roads in Vidarbha’s Nagpur, Chandrapur, Bhanadara, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Wardha, Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola, Buldana and Washim Districts caused by the record-breaking and furious rains that lashed and still lashing the region since past month. Almost all roads, particularly the National Highways and the roads in rural areas in the region warrant immediate restoration and repairs. Thousands of kilometers of roads and Highways have been wiped out, Dosani said in the memorandum.

“The farmers have been taking the maximum brunt as they could not bring their produce to markets following total destruction of roads. If the restoration and repair of roads in not taken on the warfooting, the situation for farmers would be more awful than the rain itself. The farmers would suffer the financial losses beyond imagination if the roads and Highways are not restored and repaired on an emergency basis,” Dosani informed the Minister Oscar Fernandes. Dosani urged Fernandes to grant Rs 5000 crore in the form of a Special Package so that further losses to farmers and other people could be controlled thus providing the much needed relief to them.
