Nagpur News: An FIR has been filed against a teacher of a private school in Sadar Police Station for causing injuries to eyes of a student. However, the incident had occurred in August 2013 and the FIR has been filed in March 2014.

THE INCIDENT:

The career of Satish Damodar, a teacher in St Michael School, has been eclipsed and stigma has been attached to his life forever. According to reports, Damodar was handling a Class V during off period. Since it was an off period, the students were in playful mood. However, Damodar got irritated by the noise and threw a small wooden stick towards students in anger that unfortunately hit the eyes of a student named Quereshi. The most unfortunate part of this sordid episode was that the teacher Damodar actually wanted to hit a particular student but the student ducked and the stick directly hit the eyes of Quereshi. The injuries caused by the wooden stick blinded Quereshi by 30 percent. Now, Damodar has been booked under Section 338 of the IPC.

NO ACTION BY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT:

It may be recalled, no student could be punished physically and mentally in accordance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The RTE Action Committee Chairman Shahid Sharif said the student has suffered 30 percent blindness. The matter has been submitted in the court after considering the future of the student. The Education Department and the School have not taken any action against the teacher so far.  The Collector has also been apprised about the incident. But still the School has not initiated any action against Satish Damodar.
