Speeding auto knocks man dead in Sitabuldi

A recklessly driven autorickshaw knocked a 50-year old man dead near Jhansi Rani Square, one of the busiest spots in the city. The driver of the six-seater auto has since been arrested.
According to police, the fatal accident occurred between 1800 and 1830 hours on Sunday (June 1). The victim, yet to be identified, was standing in front of Matru Sewa Sangh most probably for boarding a bus or an auto. At the same, the autorickshaw (MH 31 CB 3923), driven at breakneck speed by Sachin Subhashrao Lande (23), a resident of Wanadongri, crashed into the 50-year old man injuring him critically. The man died on the spot before any help could be rendered by the nearby people. However, people succeeded in catching the auto driver.
Sitabuldi police reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem. The cops registered an offence and arrested the accused auto driver. The body of the victim will be handed over to the relatives once identity of the man is ascertained by police.
