Kolkatta/Nagpur: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was elected the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) after receiving the backing of the West Bengal Government.

The post was made vacant by Jagmohan Dalmiya’s death on Sunday.

Ganguly, who is into his second year as joint-secretary of CAB, was seen as the obvious choice to replace Dalmiya. Amidst intense speculation, Ganguly and Avishek met with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday and the meeting was said to have lasted for an hour.

More detail awaited.
