Sound pollution during Ganeshotsava to be checked in the city

Nagpur: In order to strictly abide by the directives issued by Mumbai High Court, Mumbai under the provisions of  Sound Pollution (Control and Regulation) Rules, 2000, during ensuing Ganesh festival in the city, a review-meeting will be held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Sabhagruh, Collectorate, here on Sept 11, at 4.30 pm. District Collector Sachin Kurve will preside over the meeting.

It may be mentioned that Mumbai High Court disposing of on March 13, 2015 a Writ Petition No. 173/ 2010, Dr Mahesh Bedekar versus Maharashtra Government and others, filed under the provisions of Sound Pollution (Control and Regulation) Rules, 2000, directed the state government to take immediate measures vide Rule 34 (4) and (5) to control sound pollution.

Prior to this, Maharashtra Government’s department of environment had issued GR No. Dhwani-2009 Case No.15/ Tank-1, dated April 21, 2009 to all departments concerned under provisions of Sound Pollution (Control&Regulation) Rules, 2000 for its effective implementation.

Now, as it has become mandatory to abide by, the aforesaid meeting has been called by collector Sachin Kurve in the wake of ensuing Ganeshotsava.
