Nagpur: The Second Capital City of Nagpur will witness hectic political activities as Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will attend the concluding function of the year-long celebrations marking the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on April 11.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has been conducting the year-long celebrations of Dr Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary across the country and the concluding programme will be held in Nagpur on April 11.
The AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh arrived in the city on Friday (April 1) and reviewed the preparations of the programme as well as the public meeting to be addressed by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi at Kasturchand Park here on the same day. MPCC chief Ashok Chavan who too arrived in city said that both the leaders will also visit the historic Deekshabhoomi, the place where Dr Ambedkar embraced Buddhism in 1956 and pay respect to the late Dalit leader. It will be for the first time the Congress chief and her deputy pay visit to the monument.
Apart from Sonia and Rahul, Opposition Leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad (Rajya Sabha) and Mallikarjun Kharge (Lok Sabha), other senior party functionaries will also attend the function.
