Nagpur: Headquarters Maintenance Command, IAF conducted cleaning of the pavement and bund of Futala Lake en-mass on 05 Oct 2014. Air Marshal P Kanakaraj, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, HQ MC, IAF himself lead the cleaning operation from the front. All the air warriors enthusiastically and systematically cleaned the area which was littered during the holidays and festive season.
It may be recalled that HQ Maintenance Command, IAF has been drawing attention of Nagpurians and Civic authorities towards saving the existence of the Futala Lake.
Earlier, a Musical concert by Air Force Band was also conducted on 03 May 2014 on the banks of Futala Lake to increase awareness among the citizens towards maintaining Futala. While civic authorities had taken a number of steps to ensure immersion of idols in artificial ponds, the requirements at Futala appeared to be much more.
Involvement of all citizens and authorities in unison can only bring about a change in the status of the waters of Futala.
The Lake is getting covered by weeds from one end and is being littered from other three directions due to negligence and apathy of citizens. Immediate action, change of habits and self discipline is the need of the hour.
Air Marshal P Kanakaraj expressed his anguish at the plight of Futala Lake.
