Nagpur: SNDL, the power distribution franchisee for city three divisions – Gandhibagh, Civil Lines and Mahal – that has been dubbed as tormentor of consumers over inflated bills, haphazard customer service and nasty style of affairs, is again in the news. A consumer has charged the company of providing “bogus” meter calibration certificate.
The consumer, Prabhakar Navkhare, a resident of Besa Road, Manewada, had filed an RTI with SNDL and had sought calibration certificate of meter checking company. Responding to the RTI poser, the power distribution franchisee provided Navkhare with the meter calibration certificate of a Hong Kong-based company named Hong Kong Song Yang Industrial Ltd. However, the certificate has neither the information regarding Accuchek meter nor information concerning the meters. The certificate has signature in Chinese language.
Navkhare, who is engineer by profession, has termed the certificate as “bogus” one. “Whenever a foreign company sends its certificate to any citizen of India, the certificate is attested by the officials of Customs, Excise and other departments and also attached with other vital documents checked by these officials. But the certificate of this Hong Kong company is bereft of all these documents,” claimed Navkhare.
Navkhare further said that he had posed SNDL an RTI query in 2014 seeking calibration certificate of Accuchek meter used in checking power meters. The SNDL in turn provided Navkhare with a calibration certificate of 2015. Questioning the certificate, Navkhare complained to the State Information Commissioner stating that when the Accuchek meter was purchased in 2015 then how the calibration certificate was provided to him in 2014. Acting on Navkhare’s complaint, the State Information Commissioner ordered SNDL to provide correct calibration certificate. Subsequently, the SNDL sent the Hong Kong-based company’s certificate to Navkhare as well as the State Information Commissioner.
He said that the SNDL sent the “bogus” certificate no only to him but also the State Information Commissioner. It simply means the company is cheating the common people as also the Commissioner. “When the SNDL has all facilities then why it is providing the certificate from Hong Kong?” Navkhare posed.
