Recently one more feather got added in cap of SMHRC & DBASI Neurosurgery Dept..a 55 yrs male patient with deteriorated neurological condition arrived at casualty. He was attended by Dr Paresh Korde (Associate Prof. & Incharge Neurosurgeon) and evaluated to diagnose him as perimesenscephalic tumor sandwiching midbrain ( brainstem)with severe obstructive hydrocephalus.

Owing to his poor neurological condition he was subjected to 2 operations in series, first VP shunt for relieving hydrocephalus and other definitive surgery for tumor excision. Due to critical location of tumor around brainstem surgical approach was planned in LATERAL SITTING POSITION…wherein patient is sitting on operation table and Neurosurgeon operates on back of head of patient. It’s one of its kind surgery requiring explicit surgical expertise and an expert management from anaesthesia point of view.

Dr Korde said that such cases are not only challenging from Neurosurgeon’s perspective but also managing anaesthesia in such unusual position is also difficult. He further said that he is very much thankful to the visionary decision of Dr Anup Marar Sir CEO SMHRC and HOD Dept Anaesthesia Dr Anjali Modak who added recently Dr Prachi Wankhade (Korde) to the team. Dr Mrs Prachi Korde is Neuroanaesthesiologist trained at Shree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology, Kerala ( Institute of National Importance) .

This has completed the team of Neurosciences and especially Neurosurgery at SMHRC so that more difficult and complicated cases can be done with utmost care and dedication positively affecting patient outcome. He said that this all is possible only after a team work by all OT and ICU staff. Dr Korde also took an opportunity to announced that with the expertise and experts at his disposal Dept of Neurosurgery at SMHRC has started ENDOSCOPIC SPINE SURGERY too.

Dr Anup Marar CEO SMHRC ..said that Neurosurgery dept is very devoted and patient centric. The good work is getting reflected in patients testimony when they are discharged. He also affirmed that Nagpur is going to witness passionate and updated Neurosurgical care in coming time at SMHRC.
