Afghanistan, the Himalayan mountainous country in the North – West of India, is famous for its delectable cuisine. Specially non vegetarian kebabs, grilled meats and soft Nans.
A good choice of such unique and authentic Afghan dishes are available in this restaurant/ dhaba on outer Ring road. The chief cook, helpers and other employees are mostly from Afghanistan, who have migrated to Nagpur due to troubled conditions in their home land.
At Sity, right now, the main offering is Chicken : various kebabs and the mild and aromatic chicken Biryani. For the ignorant, Afghanistan cuisine is known for its different kind of rice preparations. They have Quabeli pulao, Yakhni pulao, Shebet pulao and even some pure veg pulaos.
The chicken biryani/ pulao on offer at Sity’s is definitely a specimen of Afghanistani rice cooking. You get a whiff of the aroma as soon as you get out of your car!
Though the chicken pieces are marinated as for tandoori chicken, the method of cooking is different. They are ‘roasted’ directly on the flame. The tangdi kebabs were succulent and juicy inside and crisp outside. There is also a chicken soup, but topped with spicy chutneys – making it unlike continental soups.
The only mutton offering – as of now – are the Chapli kebabs. These are flat, kheema ‘cutlets’ fried crisp and served on a bed of Naan.
The restaurant is only few months old… the chief cook, Gul Khan, is eager to offer more Afghan dishes based on Nagpurians likes and demands!
Right now, it is very affordable and wallet friendly too.
