Nagpur: Police have cracked a series of shop burglaries that occurred in the busy Sitabuldi area of Nagpur, arresting one accused while launching a search for another suspect who remains absconding.
The theft took place around midnight on March 30, 2026, when unidentified burglars broke into Maya Mobile Shop and two neighbouring shops within the jurisdiction of Sitabuldi Police Station. The accused allegedly stole goods and cash worth Rs 70,200, including money and mobile accessories.

Following the incident, Kamlesh Mohanani (44), a businessman from Banjari Nagar, lodged a complaint with the police. Based on the complaint, Sitabuldi police registered a case under Sections 305(A) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
During the probe, police analysed CCTV footage, technical evidence and confidential inputs, which led them to the accused Sumit Mahavir Suman (19), a resident of Sadar. He was subsequently arrested.
During interrogation, Suman reportedly confessed to the crime, and police recovered stolen property worth Rs 4,500 from his possession.
Another accused in the case, Santosh alias Kalu Nagdive, is still absconding. Police teams have been dispatched to trace and arrest him. Investigators have also found that a minor girl in conflict with the law was allegedly involved in the crime.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal, with the team led by Senior Police Inspector Vitthalsingh Rajput and Aniket Sonawane along with his squad.
Police officials said that more stolen property is likely to be recovered once the absconding accused is arrested.
