The only requirement for the sickle cell students to avail this facility is to receive and submit a certificate of Zilla Shalya Chikitsak (District or Civil Surgeon of Government General Hospital) in the category of SS Pattern.
Nagpur News: The Maharashtra State Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board in a significant decision bestowed additional 20 minutes of time period to sickle cell-affected students.
The Board, in a kind gesture, the students suffering from the sickle cell, would be allowed 20 minutes extra for Class X and Class XII examinations for 2013-2014session. The decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of Examination Committee of the Board.
The Board, till now, was providing the facility of extra 20 minutes to blind, deaf and dumb, bone disorder and totally handicapped students. Now, the sickle cell students, too, have been brought in the ambit of the facility. The decision of the Board would cover all the high schools and junior colleges in entire Maharashtra.

THE SICKLY CELL: The sickle cell disease is supposed to hereditary. The sufferers from this disease undergo bouts of severe pain, anemia, grave infections and even organ failures. The sickle cell disease turns hemoglobin hard. Similarly, red blood cells change the normal cells abnormal.
The President of Sickle Cell Society of India Sampat Ramteke welcomed the Board decision wholeheartedly. “We were striving hard for providing this facility to sickle cell students, and, finally the Maharashtra Government accepted our demand. The students and parents as well would feel a sigh of relief in this regard,” Ramteke said.
