The Corporators and the NMC Administration have been indulging in playing “games” since ages rather carrying out any positive, tangible and visible actions for betterment of the citizens who fill up the NMC coffers by paying various taxes. The “Game” (Meeting) never begins on scheduled time is the first example of carelessness. Leave alone the Corporators, the top bosses of the NMC who run the Administration, were, too, found “Late Latif” thus killing the very purpose of the Meeting.

Nagpur News: The General Body Meetings of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), have been held for years together, for discussions of very very important issues like the development of the city, hammering out serious problems facing the citizens and, subsequently implementation of citizen-oriented schemes. However, in recent months or years, the General Body Meetings, it appears, have turned into the “playgrounds” where only “selfish games” are being played by some Corporators thus killing the very purpose of the meetings.

The NMC Administration and the Corporators must carry out positive, tangible and visible actions for betterment of the citizens who fill up the NMC coffers by paying various taxes.

The “Games” (Meetings) never begins on scheduled time is the first example of carelessness. The Meeting (Game) started after a whopping two hours late. Only lower ranked employees were present before 11 am, the scheduled time of the beginning of the General Body Meeting. Leave alone the Corporators, the top bosses of the NMC who run the Administration, were, too, found “late latif.” The outcome of this “Late Latif” resulted in adournments of House twice for 10 minutes each. First at 11.25 am and then at 11.54 am.

The July 18 meeting saw no Corporators utilizing the precious time of the Meeting for the positive discussions and, subsequent implementation of development activities the Nagpur citizens hope and expect of. Instead, the Corporators stayed only spectators to one or two topics being discussed in the 5-6 hour meeting thus nastily pointing as if there are no problems in their respective wards. However, the situations might have totally been contradictory.

The last benchers Kishore Dorle and Prashant Dhawad only raised their demands. The Meeting witnessed several Corporators, either “bored” or “fed up” with the lengthy meeting, escaping from the House to have a cup of tea or two. Some even were seen totally absenting after their selfish motive was got fulfilled. Some Corporators, for genuine reasons, skipped the Meeting. However, in woman Corporators, the Congress member Abha Pande powerfully showed her presence felt among other woman Corporators. Abha Pande herself was a topic of discussion following 60 times utterance of “Manyaniya Mahapor ji” in only half an hour speech.

The timings of the first comers and then arriving for the Meeting subsequently were as follows: 11.02 am Deepak Patel,11.17 am Gopal Bohre, 11.25 am Sandeep Joshi and Pragati Patil, 11.27 am Pravin Datke, 11.39 am Vikas Thakre, 11.44 am Raju Lokhande, 11.55 am Praful Gudadhe Patil, 11.59 am Dayashankar Tiwari, Parinay Fukey and Sanjay Balpande,12.24 pm Munna Yadav, 12.30 pm Ravindra Bhoyar and Sudhakar Kohale, 12.30 pm Bandu Talvekar, 12.55 pm Suresh Jaggyasi, 12.57 Kishore Dorle, and others thereafter. However, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman arrived at sharp 11 am and were present in the premises of the House.

It may be worth mentioning that the Maharashtra Government had sent a rescue and relief team for operations in the disaster-hit Uttarakhand. The team included three NMC firefighters for the historic rescue and relief operations for which the Maharashtra Government honoured them. Subsequently, the NMC’s General Body Meeting, too, honoured the three firefighters but only with words. It was expected from the NMC administration the special increments in their salaries in order to boost encouragement for others also. Neither the NMC Administration initiated any move in this direction nor any Corporator. This poor attitude on the part of NMC’s bigwigs adequately proves hollow heads of the so-called accountable personalities.
