Mumbai/New Delhi: Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaekwad, who boasted of hitting an Air India staffer with his sandal 25 times after being denied a business class seat, has been summoned to party chief Uddhav Thackeray’s residence ‘Matoshree’ in Mumbai.

The Sena leadership took the action after the shocking incident became a full-blown political controversy with political leaders calling for action against the leader. He would go meet Uddhav at 11 am today. The party that is trying to shed its image of an outfit that indulges in violence may take an action against the trouble-making MP.

On Thursday, after Gaekwad told a news agency that he didn’t hit the Air India staffer with a ‘chappal’, but with his ‘sandal’. He said that he hit him 25 times for denying him economy class seat despite being charged for business class.

The Bharatiya Janata Party condemned his action.

“The incident involving a Member of Parliament (MP) from Shiv Sena is highly condemnable. This is not the sort of behaviour that people of the country expect from elected lawmakers. The people expect their politicians to show exemplary behaviour,” BJP spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao told news agency.
