Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari appeals to vote for AAP; Party rejects support

Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari on Friday appealed to Muslims to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi Assembly Elections, which are scheduled to be held on Saturday.

In his appeal, Bukhari urged the people to help AAP to form an “honest and secular” government in Delhi while accusing BJP of extending support to elements who are trying to divide the society.
“The country is facing the grave dangers of communalism and Muslims are the target of communal forces,” Bukhari said in a statement while asking people to support AAP to protect the country from divisive forces.

Though AAP maintained distance form Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari appeal to Muslims on Friday to vote for AAP in the Delhi elections.
“We have nothing to do with Bukhari. AAP believes in secular ideology,” said AAP leader Ashutosh.

The party’s Ashish Khaitan alleged that Syed Bukhari’s politics “is regressive and communal,” and added, “AAP wants to finish off communal politics. We want to finish off what Imam stands for. We want the support of every common man.”
