Nagpur: So far seven Grandmasters have confirmed their participation in Glocal Square 53rd National Challenger Chess Championship organised by Nagpur District Chess Association (NDCA) at Naivedyam Hall from August 16.
Addressing media persons Maharashtra Chess Association secretary Dilip Pagay and organising president of the event Manoj Itkelwar said the tournament has evoked overwhelming response. Seven Grand Masters (GMs) including Deep Sengupta, Lalith Babu and MR Venkatesh, Nilotpal Das (all from PSPB) along with Deepan Chakravarthy, RR Laxman and Saptarshi Roy Choudhury (all from RLYS) have confirmed their entry. Pagay said more GM’s are expected to participate in the tournament.
Itkelwar said Glocal Square, of Goel Ganga Group has come forward as the title sponsor of this prestigious national event. Talking to media persons Atul Goel of Goel Ganga group said, ” I am happy to be associated with this prestigious event. We are already sponsoring chess as well as badminton activities in Pune and Nagpur”.
Speaking about his venture he said Glocal Square is a combination of Global MArket with Local Bazar having all facilities of shopping and family entertainment is comng up at Sitabuldi area. The mega project will be completed by 2018. NDCA president VK Trivedi, NDCA secretary KK Barat, NDBA secretary Mangesh Kashikar and others were also present at the press conference.
