Sandip Agrawal demands action against rice mill owners

Nagpur: Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee Farmers and Farm Labourers Division’s Vice-President Sandip Agrawal has demanded a probe into use of faulty electronic weighing machines in Rice mills in Nagpur district. In a press note issued here Agrawal has said that there are 300 rice mills in the district which have electronic weighing machines . Some of the rice mill owners have been meddling with the electronic weighing machines and making a lot of money. They have been literally looting the farmers. From last some years the farmers have been facing a difficult time due to burdern of loan, crop failure etc. Despite all this they are still sowing the paddy and hoping for good crop.

According to the reliable sources, in Mouda area two rice mill owner during checking of the electronic weighing machines were found to be guilty of meddling with pointer so that they could gain 7 to 10 per cent more. After this the weight and measurements officials had sealed the electronic weighing machines. This is sheer plot against the farmers. If the Weights and Measurements Department checks the machines in the district a big scam is sure to come to light.

Sandip Agrawal has demanded a thorough probe by Weights and Measurements Department in Nagpur district’s rice mills electronics weighing machines. He has demanded action against the rice mill owners under MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of organised Crime) and the money they have earned through illegal practice be distributed among the farmers. He has also demanded to impose a heavy fine on them.
