RTMNU’s ‘Earn & Learn’ scheme: Students slog for meagre honorarium of Rs 150

Nagpur: Around 200 students were selected for RTMNU’s “Earn and Learn” scheme this year. The University has added 20 more students in the second list. Under this scheme for 3 hours work students are paid Rs 150 per day. In view of the meagre honorarium, students have been demanding hike in the hike in honorarium since years. Despite the demand, the students will have to slog and content with the same honorarium.

The second demand of the students was that all the applicant students should be included in the ‘Earn and Learn’ scheme. But the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University selected only 200 students out of 265 applicants. The students had demanded that all the students should get work who have applied under this scheme.

Moreover, the 20 students who were added in the second list will get the opportunity to work only for five months as the academic year ends in April. The students had also complained about delay of 2-3 months in receiving their honorarium for the work done under the ‘Earn and Learn’ Scheme. The RTMNU claimed that students are now being given the honorarium every month.

Under the ‘Earn and Learn’ scheme, work for students was started on September 11 and they will get honorarium till April 30 next year. In this scheme, RTMNU deploys students studying in various faculties in selected departments for work. The students have demanded that they be given honorarium on the lines Pune University’s ‘Earn and Learn’ scheme.

Nagpur University’s Students Development Department’s Director Dilip Kawadkar said that this year more students were taken under this scheme and they will get the same honorarium – Rs 50 per hour. There is no hike. Students should not worry as they will be given honorarium every month, he added.
