RTMNU debars student from appearing in exam for circulating leaked paper

Nagpur: Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has debarred a student from appearing in examination because of his involvement in a paper leak case. The debarment will be for one examination. The said student, who belonged to a reputed college in Gondia, had circulated a leaked question paper online, prior to scheduled time of examination.

The student had got that paper allegedly from a clerk from the same college. The examination of B.Sc Semester 4 – Mathematics 1 was scheduled on June 23, 2022. This year, the university is conducting examinations on Multiple Choice Questions-based in off-line mode. To avoid any untoward incident, the university has decided to upload the paper one-and-a-half hours prior to the scheduled time. As per the procedure, the authorised person with the respective college types the password and takes the number of printouts as per the requirement of the Centre. The print-outs of question papers are distributed among students 10 minutes before the start of the examination.

This time, examination is conducted at Home Centres and most colleges are taking efforts to enhance their students’ score through various means. The said student is of Gondia’s Sakharam Deshmukh Mahila Mahavidyalaya where the incident took place. After receiving the paper on mobile, the student immediately forwarded it to friends. Father of one of the friends came to know about this. He immediately informed university authorities. The authorities investigated and identified the centre number printed on the paper. The centre number was of Gondia’s Sakharam Deshmukh Mahila Mahavidyalaya.

University’s team reached the centre and seized all the papers. “As an immediate response to the violation, we had cancelled the examination and prohibited Deshmukh College from holding any university examination this year. Matter was referred to the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC). DAC has recommended the debarment of one examination for the student who circulated the paper. Six students too are punished as their Mathematics paper stands cancelled. Remaining 22 students are given the benefit of doubt,” said Dr Praful Sable, Director of Board of Examinations and Evaluation, RTMNU.
