RTMNU cracks the whip against 32 errant engineering colleges, warns of stalling admissions

Nagpur: Cracking the whip against errant engineering colleges affiliated to it, the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has decided to stall admissions in 32 out of 48 engineering colleges found to be lacking basic facilities and short of stipulated number of teachers. The 32 engineering colleges have been directed to come up with the basic facilities and the required number of teachers before Centralised Admission Process (CAP) round or face the action, Dr D K Agrawal, Director of  Board of College and University Development (BCUD).

The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) had inspected teaching and other infrastructure facilities at the technical institutions affiliated to RTMNU six months back.   During the inspection, the DTE had identified certain loopholes. The colleges concerned were asked to remove the shortcomings and comply with it. Some colleges were found to have no teachers at all. DTE has sent a three-member committee to check whether the colleges have removed the deficiencies or not. Surprisingly, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), too, decided to conduct inspections independently. Both the committees focussed their inspections on checking cadre ratio, student-teacher ratio, number of teachers appointed for first year, number of teachers as per cadre ratio, teachers for UG and PG as per sanctioned intake. The committees constituted by University found that 32 colleges have flouted the norms. The BCUD has recommended the stalling of admissions to be done in the academic year 2016-17 if the errant engineering colleges failed to remove the shortcomings before the start of Centralised Admission Process (CAP).
