RTI: 4921-Death

Nagpur: In a shocking revelation, a total of 4921 persons, including 296 employees of MSEDCL, lost their lives due to electrocution in the past six years. 5046 animals fell victims in the same period as well. The period also saw 3675 persons, including 1574 employees of Mahavitaran, maimed in the non-fatal electrocution incidents.

This “electrifying” data was provided by MSEDCL in an RTI reply to a query posed by RTI activist Abhay Kolarkar.
However, “shockingly” the power supplying company did not reply on fatalities caused by negligence on the part of Mahavitaran. The reply was also nil on how many guilty personnel faced action or spared of the action. The only reply was “no information” available.

In another reply, the MSEDCL said that it has no information as to how many electrocution victims were paid compensation and the amount of compensation. The reply was also blank on the compensation extended to deceased Mahavitaran personnel.
The finger for seeking information in this regard was pointed to the Zonal Office of the Mahavitaran.
