Nagpur: In order to curb such crime a joint operation was undertaken by Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Reserve Police (GRP) and Nagpur City Police (Railway Station) and arrested as many as 200 persons for various violations on June 11, 2015.

Indian Railways serve nearly 13 million passengers every day therefore the security and safety of these passengers is of paramount importance to the system. At the same time, the onus of maintaining law and order in railways and railway premises lies with Maharashtra State Police in Nagpur. The security of passengers and their belongings in the running trains and railway premises is the shared responsibility of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Reserve Police (GRP).

Though Railway offers one of the best cheapest means of public transport, many misuse the facility in various ways. They travel without ticket, they smuggle goods and contrabands, they violate directions of not crossing the railway lines etc.

In the joint operation, the cops detained as many as two hundred persons for various violations including ticketless travel, crossing the railway lines, causing damage to railway property, smoking inside railway premises etc.
