Rowdy kite flying sparks group clashes at many places in city

Nagpur: Skirmishes over kite flying led to group clashes at many places on Makarsankranti day. The clashes left many injured. Several hoodlums have been booked in this connection.

In the first incident, the complainant Mahendra Ravishankar Sen (33), resident of Binaki Layout, Yashodhara Nagar, along with his friends Kailas Umredkar, Akash Taklikar, Purshottam Parate were standing near their office besides Shastri Agarbatti Factory around 12.45 pm on Sunday. At the same time, they noticed a group of persons quarrelling with each other over kite flying. Subsequently, Mahendra and his friends went there and tried to bring peace between the fighting group. But their gesture did not go down well with the accused Shubham Chaurasiya (25), Nishuraj Rakeshiya (27), Shubham Jaisinghpure (25), Amit Sharma (23), Shubham Bokde (22), Pratim Bokde (24) and their other accomplices, all residents of Joshipura, Yashodhara Nagar. Instead of settling their dispute, the group of accused attacked Mahendra and his friends with some blunt object tied in a cloth and sticks and injured them severely.

Yashodhara Nagar police constable has registered a case against the accused under Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 324, 323 of the IPC and started investigations.

In other incident reported in Ajni police jurisdiction, a group of youngsters namely Rakesh Shah, Sunil Shah, Nikhil Meshram, Rahul Wasnik, Piyush Gaur, and three others, all residents of Dhadiwal Layout, Ajni, attacked Deepak Ramlal Kanoujiya (42) of same locality. The reason for the attack was that Deepak snapped the accused Rakesh Shah’s kite and celebrated the moment with a roar of ‘O kaat.’ Enraged by the ‘cut’, the accused Rakesh summoned his other accused friends. All the accused then went on rampage. They pelted stones on Deepak Kanoujiya’s house, smashed door and entered into his house and damaged households.

Ajni PSI Y V Meshram has booked the accused under Sections 336, 452, 427, 143, 144, 147, 148 of the IPC and started investigations.

Similar incident was reported in Sadbhavna Nagar in Nandanvan police jurisdiction. A brawl over kite flying led to assault on Harshal Jairam Mundle (30). The accused Amol and his 7 other accomplices picked up a quarrel with Harshal was flying kite from terrace of his residence around 3.30 pm. The accused were also flying kite from the adjoining terrace. As the brawl erupted, the accused pelted stones on Harshal’s house. One of the stones hit him on his face and caused severe injury.

Nandanvan PSI Mahendrasingh Thakur registered a case under Sections 143, 147, 149, 336, 427, 504, 506 of the IPC. Further probe is on.

Similar violent incidents were reported in Jaripatka, Pachpaoli, Hudkeshwar police jurisdictions.
