England 277-7 (129 ovs) vs India

Young Joe Root has made a good impression with the bat on his Test debut. He has showed tons of patience to bat solidly on a slow wicket for his innings of 65 not out from 200 balls.

He has hardly looked trouble either against the spinners or Ishant Sharma’s pace.

England made 78 runs in 32 overs, out of which eight were maiden overs, while losing two wickets in the morning session.

Indian bowlers toiled hard in the morning session but England led by Prior and Root held forte and resisted the hosts with a big partnership.

After Lunch

Jadeja resumes proceedings after lunch and he starts with a maiden over. Surpisingly, Swann decides to be cautious to begin with as he plays out a maiden over from Jadeja.

Ashwin to bowl the second over as Root and Swann pick a single each to the long-on fielder as India continue with their policy of keeping things tight. Root flicks the last ball of that over to fine leg for another single.

Jadeja continues to bowl what he describes as the “stump to stump line” for his second successive over after the lunch break.

Here are some moments of the first session.
