As politics over Union minister General VK Singh’s demand that New Delhi’s Akbar Road should be renamed Maharana Pratap Marg intensifies, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor also joined the chorus, questioning why “har cheez” (everything) in the country is named after the Gandhis.

“Baap ka maal samjh rakha tha? (Do they consider it their father’s property?)” tweeted the 63-year-old actor, once known as one of India’s best romantic stars. “If roads in Delhi can be changed why not Congress assets/property ke naam?” he asked.

“We must name important assets of the country who have contributed to society. Har cheez Gandhi ke naam? I don’t agree. Sochna log!” said another tweet by Kapoor, whose scathing and often self-deprecating tweets have earned him over a million Twitter followers.

“Why Indira G airport International? Why not Mahatma Gandhi or Bhagat Singh Ambedkar or on my name Rishi Kapoor. As superficial! What say?” Kapoor said as he posted a series of questions.

Kapoor suggested that a few landmarks in his city, Mumbai, should also be renamed. “Change Gandhi family assets named by Congress. Bandra/Worli Sea Link to Lata Mangeshkar or JRD Tata link road,” he said in one tweet.

“Film City should be named Dilip Kumar,Dev Anand,Ashok Kumar ya Amitabh Bachchan ke naam? Rajeev Gandhi udyog Kya hota hai? Socho doston!” he went on. “Imagine Mohamad Rafi Mukesh Manna Dey Kishore Kumar venues on their name like in our country. Just a suggestion.”

Raj Kapoor, his father and one of the pioneers of Indian cinema, also found a mention. “Raj Kapoor has made India proud over the years all over even after his death. Certainly more than What has been perceived by politics,” he tweeted.
