Nagpur: In a rare “reverse trap” action, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday nabbed an attempt to murder accused who tried to bribe the investigating police officer for certain favour.

The accused Bablu Quereshi alias Mohd Sajid Ibrahim Iqbal Ahmed, resident of Kamptee, and three others were facing the charge under Sections 307, 34 (attempt to murder). The complainant police officer is investigating the case. In the meanwhile, the accused Bablu Quereshi approached the District and Sessions Court for anticipatory bail which was rejected. Subsequently, the accused moved the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court for the same. The High Court granted an interim bail to the accused on the condition that he will visit Kamptee Police Station and cooperate in the investigation. Following the High Court order the accused used to visit the police station. However, on October 3, 2016, the accused Bablu Qureshi ‘lured’ the complainant/investigating police officer with a bribe of Rs 15,000 for not arresting him and also deleting his name from the offence record. Taken aback by the bribe offer, the police officer straightaway approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and lodged a complaint in this regard.

Acting on the complaint, the ACB sleuths laid a trap on Wednesday (October 5) and waited for the perfect moment. As the accused Bablu Quereshi alias Mohd Sajid Ibrahim Iqbal Ahmed offered and gave a bribe of Rs 15,000 to the complainant/investigating police officer for the favour, the ACB sleuths pounced on him and nabbed him red-handed. Later, an offence was registered against the bribe giver under Section 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and he was placed under arrest.

The task was carried out by Police Inspectors Ramakant Kokate, Dinesh Shende, constable Dinesh Shivle, Naik Police Constable Ranjit Bisen, sepoys Prabhakar Bale, Chandranag Taksande, driver Parasram Shahi under the guidance of SP Sanjay Darade.
