Retired Employees of Coal India expresses concern on appointment of IAS officer as CMD

Nagpur: Central Executive Committee of the “Federation of Coal Industry Retired Employees Association” met at Hyderabad on 25th May 2015.

The representatives of various Association were welcome by K.R.C. Reddy, the President of the Coal Mines Pensioners Association, Secundrabad (AP).

J.N. Singh, President of the Federation informed the attending representatives on the development of the court case filed for upward revision of pension. He read out the order of the Supreme Court transferring the case to High Court of Delhi. The High Court ordered for inclusion of the employers of the Federation members. The same was complied and the notice has been issued to the thirteen Respondents. The next of hearing is fixed on 7th July 2015.

The representative expressed concern over appointment of an I.A.S. Officer as Chairman- Cum Managing Director of Coal India Ltd. in preference of internal deserving candidates in contravention of the guideline issued by Government of India. The representative from the host Association had expressed concern that the Chairman/Managing Director of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd belongs to I.A.S. cadre continually after 1967.

All the representatives expressed serious concern for operating the Coal Mines through Contactors inspite being banned under law of the land. All the Contractor-workers are not enrolled as members of the Coal Mines Provident Fund. The Contractor-workers are paid much less and are not admitted the same service condition for same or similar work compared to the Principal Employers’ employees.

Non-enrolment of all the Contractor-workers as members of the CMPF and much less pay to them have resulted in acute shortage of pension fund.

In view of above it was resolved that the related issues may be taken up in the court of law.The representatives agreed to collect fund contest various court cases. It further resolved to contest the court cases for a logical end . The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by the host association.
