Hyderabad/Nagpur: In an embarrassment for the Congress, the Hyderabad Police has booked party’s senior leader and former union minister Renuka Chowdhury for allegedly taking bribe of over Rs 1.10 crore from an aspirant by promising him an Assembly Election ticket, reports stated on Saturday.
The petitioner, B Kalawati, told ANI that before Assembly polls Renuka Chowdhury had promised her husband, Ramjee Naik, Wyra Assembly ticket for last year’s elections but he was not given the same.
“She took more than Rs 1.10 crore but cheated us. We want justice and will take this matter to the court,” Kalawati was quoted as saying by ANI.
Police in Khammam district of Telangana has registered a case under the SC/ST Atrocities Act against Chowdhury. Kalavati has also alleged that her husband died due to pressure of the debts they incurred to raise the money.
The case was registered following an order by the High Court in Hyderabad.
Renuka Chowdhary has denied such allegations, stating she has never met or seen Kalawati, reports claimed.
